Fast and accurate: online calculation based on CAD models

Costing like RK Rose+Krieger? For three years, the manufacturer has relied on the costing platform costing24 from simus systems. There, the manufacturing costs of components are calculated online using CAD models. This works for turned, milled, flat and bent parts. In the meantime, the product carbon footprint of in-house manufactured products can also be read off.
costing24 provides the manufacturing costs of turned, milled, flat and bent parts, including their post-treatment, in a flash. For this purpose, a 3D model is uploaded from leading CAD systems or in the standard formats JT with XT-Brep or STEP. Registered users can individually set hourly rates, cutting values as well as setup and non-productive times, customize the virtual machine park, create calculation variants and save up to 100 models for 30 days.

Quotation basis and target cost control
RK Rose+Krieger GmbH has to answer numerous inquiries every day. Their catalog products, customized products, system solutions and special developments in linear and profile technology are in demand worldwide. The calculation is carried out by a team of three in Minden: "We calculate with many variables, mostly series with small, but sometimes also high batch sizes, turned and milled parts as well as sheet metal processing," reports Kai Dröge, calculator in the technical order processing department. The faster a quotation is received, the greater the chances of being awarded a contract. "We also work in preparation for new development projects, updating at individual milestones and accompanying a new linear unit, for example, until it is ready for series production." This applies to in-house production components as well as outsourcing.

Fast and cost-effective service
For a long time, Kai Dröge searched for a solution for the necessary price calculations: "It is not worthwhile to procure and maintain special software. Attempts at calculation via the CAD system were expensive and not very convenient." About three years ago, he tried the costing24 platform.
"You can use costing24 very easily, upload your own raw parts and define raw materials," says Kai Dröge. Immediately, manufacturing costs are displayed scaled by lot size and clearly broken down into setup and unit costs, with the CAD model color-coded by cost. "You get results very quickly that you can derive directly in Excel," explains Dröge. "That's what convinced me." He has been using the platform for about three years, now with two other employees. "The high accuracy meets our requirements perfectly."
